Worth The Trip: 6 U.S. Towns Wine Connoisseurs Will Love

Wine is made in all 50 states, but if you’re a wine connoisseur, there are six towns in America not to be missed. From the sweeping valleys of California and Oregon, the lake regions of New York and Michigan, and the foothills of Virginia, you are sure to find your new favorite vineyard. Plus they’re also great towns to see through the window of a campervan!

Napa Valley, CA

Napa Valley is the most popular location in this list, for a good reason. With over 400 wineries in the region, including many award-winning family-owned vineyards, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Spanning over 30 miles of stunning vistas, wine tasting experiences vary greatly from the ultra luxurious to a tiny hole-in-the-wall garage setting. For a truly unique experience, take a tour of the valley from the historic Napa Wine Train. If you’re up for an adventure, sign up for the Murder Mystery Train.

This no-frills RV Park is worth the stay because of its location. Situated within walking distance from downtown Napa, wine tastings, restaurants, and shopping, it’s the ultimate hub for experiencing the many faces of Napa Valley.

Finger Lakes, NY

The Finger Lakes region of upstate New York is a wine-lovers paradise. With over 120 different wineries set near gorgeous waterways with stunning views, it’s truly a region for wine lovers that is not to be missed. The best time to visit is during the summer and fall where you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous fall colors and perfect summer temperatures. A unique wine to try that is specific to the region is ice wine, which is nothing like any wine you’ve tried before.

Sned Acres Family Campground

This quiet campground is situated right in the heart of the finger lakes wine region and is just minutes away from some of the most popular wineries. The sites are set on a hillside that offers stunning views of the lake below.

Willamette Valley, OR

The Willamette Valley is home to two-thirds of the wineries found in Oregon with over 500 different wineries to choose from. It’s also the premier location for the best Pinot Noirs in the country. For a unique experience, fly over the valley in a hot air balloon. The region offers something for everyone and is popular for breweries and delicious farm-to-table cuisines.

Willamette Country RV Park

Located on the banks of the Yamhill River and nearby to many local wineries, it’s the perfect location to jump start your Willamette Valley wine tasting experience. This RV Park also rents vintage trailers, so if you’re traveling with friends without an RV, they can still join you!

Traverse City, MI

Upstate Michigan isn’t just a destination for wine lovers, it’s also abundant in breweries, distilleries, and cider houses. Traverse City a great jumping off point for exploring the multiple wine regions in the area. Directly to the north of the city is Old Mission Peninsula that has 10 amazing wineries. Further out of the city you’ll find the Leelanau Peninsula wine trail that has three different loops and tons of wine options. Plus, you can’t beat the stunning views of Lake Michigan!

Leelanau Pines Camp Resort

Located about 30 minutes north of Traverse City and right on a small lake perfect for escaping the summer heat. This campground puts you right in the heart of the Leelanau Wine Trail.

Charlottesville, VA

The Monticello Wine Trail is the birthplace of American wine and has been inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s vision of winemaking. Set in the gorgeous hillside of the Blue Ridge Mountains, you can sample wines from 33 different vineyards. A trip to Charlottesville isn’t complete without a visit to the Jefferson Vineyards which is rich with the history of Thomas Jefferson. From private tastings to gorgeous vistas, Charlottesville promises the best wine tasting experience in all of Virginia.

This campground offers wine tours that depart right from the campground! There’s no need to worry about a designated driver, the campground takes care of everything, driving you around to the various wineries and deposits you back to your RV at the end of the day. Paso Robles, CA

Paso Robles Wine Country is the hottest region for wine tasting in California – second only to Napa Valley. With over 300 wineries, breweries, and distilleries, you can find exactly what you’re looking for. You can find just about any kind of wine in this region, from Tempranillo’s, Bordeaux- style wines, Rhone varieties, rich red wines, and crisp whites. Plus, this region is absolutely stunning and is a delight for nature lovers.

This RV Park has been dubbed the “Best RV Park in California” and for a good reason. It’s packed full of amenities and is centrally located to some of the best wineries in the country. Sites in the rear of the park back up to a neighboring vineyard, providing amazing views right outside your RV window.
