7 Reasons to Take an RV to Your Next Music Festival

Music festivals and RVs go together like rhythm and blues. Concerts all over the country create seas of campers that build on the musical experience long after the last notes of the night have strummed.

RVs are the best option for attending music festivals because of the way they enhance the experience. That’s why we created a search filter on our site for festival-ready rigs.

Let’s dig into the reasons to take an RV to your next music festival and some tips for making the most of the experience.

7 Reasons to RV to Your Next Music Festival

1. Home comes with you

RVs are self-contained mini-homes. This means you’ll have a spot to chill, cook great food, and keep the socializing rolling long after the last note has played.

Contrast that with the other cats who have to drive home every day and we think you’ll see why RVs are solid accompaniments to music festivals.

2. You are the hangout spot

RVs are natural gathering zones. When you bring an RV to a music festival, your friends who are driving in each day and the new friends you make at the fest will all have a spot to hang their hat with you.

3. Music festivals create camper cities

It’s not uncommon to discover camper cities at music festivals like Country Thunder, Bonnaroo, Floydfest, and more.

With seas of RVs as far as the eye can see, these camper clusters operate like little towns where you can experience culture, cuisine, and camaraderie unlike anywhere else.

4. Avoid music festival traffic

At the end of each glorious night, there is the inevitable gridlock that accompanies music festivals. You get to avoid all of this when you roll in an RV.

Oh and you also get to avoid all those festival goers who got a bit too deep in the cooler.

That’s what we call a win-win.

5. It’s safer

Building on point #4, you’ll be safer staying in an RV at your next music festival if you’re one to imbibe. There’s nothing wrong with adding some octane to the music — so long as you don’t have to get behind the wheel after.

RVs also give you the ability to store your belongings in a locked vehicle so you don’t have to carry them with you or worry about them in a tent.

Put safety first by renting one of these festival ready rigs.

6. Convenience

You don’t have to buy festival food, use festival bathrooms, or deal with festival crowds. These are three big convenience factors that make RVing and music festivals go hand in hand.

RVs are also a convenient place to recharge your batteries. Music festivals are exhilarating, but they can also be exhausting. And some music festivals can get friggin hot (Bonnaroo anyone???). That’s why a camper cool down zone is a great thing to have at a festival.

Top tip: Use this search filter to see festival friendly RVs that come with air conditioning.

7. Extend the adventure

When you travel by RV to a music festival, you give yourself the chance to explore the spaces in between and the spaces beyond.

Why not extend a vacation after the concert to explore nearby national parks, historical monuments, or other outdoorsy locales you’ve always wanted to see?

Top Tips for RVing to Your Next Music Festival

Once you’ve locked in a festival friendly RV, your next step will be to festival-prep it. Here are the main things to consider:

Prep your RV for dry camping — Music festivals rarely have RV hookups, so you’ll be relying on the internal holding tanks and batteries in your camper. Be sure all this is topped off and prepped before rolling out.

Pack food ahead of time — Most RVs have fridges and cooking areas. Buy your food ahead of the trip and pack it in to save a fortune over expensive festival food.

Assume all weather conditions — Rains, floods, winds, hail, cold, hot, you name it and that weather pattern has probably hit a festival. That’s why it pays to pack a reasonable amount of gear to protect you from festival elements.

Know your RV’s limits — Travel trailers and motorhomes can usually camp without hookups for longer periods than campervans because they feature larger batteries and holding tanks.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t take a campervan to your next music festival, just be sure you know how much water, poo, and power it can hold so you don’t get caught high and dry.

Leave restricted items at home — Music festivals have varying rules on the items they will and won’t allow you to bring in. Be mindful of these rules so you don’t bring something that could get you booted.

Josh and his wife traveled around the country in an '88 Airstream for 4+ years of full-time RVing. They made an unexpected pitstop in Montana in 2020 and haven't left since. That's because they got hooked on the glamping resort they run by Glacier National Park. Fittingly, they keep up their RVing love by renting out vintage Airstreams and other retro RVs to travelers hitting Montana.
